Weekly Finale: Blondie

Let's close up shop for the weekend with a brand new album, "Pollinator", from Blondie.

Blondie, best known as the Deborah Harry-led 1980's band who did such classic singles as Heart of Glass and Call Me, is back with their first album since 2014, although their last mildly successful album was 1999's No Exit. So how does Pollinator do? Let's say the flowers are looking for a little more.

The album starts out well with Doom or Destiny, which features Joan Jett:

If you could only pick one song on "Pollinator" to hear, pick Doom or Destiny. It is a solid rock tune that shows Joan Jett and Deborah Harry should work together more often. It is also the only song I am adding to my Spotify playlists.

After that, Fun is an ok song which suits its title, but I would rather listen to something new from Pitbull than this recycled-sounding party tune:

The rest of the album also sounds a little recycled. Maybe something will stand out to me later, but nothing really hit me on first listen.

Having said that, if you are looking for new music from 1980's bands, you could do a lot worse than "Pollinator". It isn't bad. It just isn't great. On a 4 star scale, I would give it 2 stars. It is worth a listen, but just one listen.

Enjoy your weekend, and try not to get into too much pollen. My blog will be back with fresh posts on Monday.
