Catalonia Says Adiós: Today's News for October 5th

Reuters:
Catalonia will move on Monday to declare independence from Spain after holding a banned referendum, pushing the European Union nation towards a rupture that threatens the foundations of its young democracy.
This opening paragraph would be funny if it wasn't so sad. So the European Union's "democracy" is threatened by a legal vote (which Spain tried to suppress in a most undemocratic fashion) to declare independence?

Continuing:
Catalan President Carles Puigdemont said he favoured mediation to find a way out of the crisis but that Spain's central government had rejected this. Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy's government responded by calling on Catalonia to "return to the path of law" first before any negotiations.
In other words, the "democratic" government of Spain told the democratically created government of Catalonia that they aren't legal.

Continuing:
Puigdemont told the BBC he would ask the region's parliament to declare independence following the referendum, which Spain's government and constitutional court say was illegal and in which only a minority of Catalans voted.
The reason only a minority voted was because Spain actively and violently tried to suppress the vote.

In other news...

Miami Herald:

A tropical depression churning across the southern Caribbean could become Tropical Storm Nate on track to hit the Gulf Coast, and possibly Florida, as a hurricane over the weekend.

In their 11 p.m. Wednesday advisory, National Hurricane Center forecasters said the storm is moving over warm waters and encountering light wind shear that could allow quick intensification. Its possible sustained winds could reach near 85 mph in three days, making it a Category 1 storm as it approaches the Gulf Coast on Saturday. Wednesday evening forecasters upped their intensity forecast from earlier in the day, but said there’s still a chance the storm could weaken as it crosses Central America and the Yucatan.
Have a nice weekend!

Finally, in other news today...

Gateway Pundit:
It appears Twitter is censoring the Drudge Report once again. This time, Donald Trump Jr. pointed out the social media giant labeled the conservative news site’s tweet about positive news on the U.S. economy sensitive. The story in question is by CNBC titled “American optimism about the economy hits an all-time high in new CNBC survey”

The offending tweet?

In the interest of free speech, here is the Twitter-censored article:

CNBC:
The public's views on the economy continue to cruise at lofty levels but the optimism does not appear to be lifting the president's approval rating.

The third-quarter CNBC All-America Economic Survey found 43 percent of the public believes the economy is excellent or good, a record high in the 10-year history of the survey. Thirty-six percent believes the economy will get better, down a couple of points from last quarter, but just 23 percent say it will get worse, down 6 points.

The four-quarter average for every major economic metric in the poll --- the outlook for the economy, housing, wages and the stock market --- is at a record 10-year high. Those four quarters cover the time span since President Donald Trump's election.

However, just 38 percent of the public approves of Trump's job as president, up a point from June, while 52 percent disapproves, also up a point.

Approval for Trump's handling of the economy bumped up 2 points to 43 percent, while disapproval declined by 3 points to 41 percent.
There is more to the article, but the offensive part remains to be seen. You can decide which is more offensive: The economic optimism or Trump's low approval numbers? Or maybe the offensive part is just Trump Jr.?

If Twitter isn't careful, this censorship is going to run people off to other platforms, such as Gab.

Speaking of Gab, if you need to reach me there, I am @edmcgon.
