Weekly finale: Michael Jackson's "Thriller"

Another week meets its ultimate end, as does my blogging for this week. But fear not! I will return Monday. Meanwhile, on to the weekly musical finale...

This past week was the 34th anniversary of the release of Michael Jackson's Thriller, arguably one of the most important albums of all-time.

I could easily discuss any song on the album, but the title track is arguably the most important. The song Thriller was a tribute to horror movies and all things scary, but the video for the song raised the bar for how we view music videos:

Thriller's video, directed by John Landis, was the first music video added to the Library of Congress's National Film Registry in 2009, which tells you just how revolutionary this video was. Although derivative of such films as Night of the Living Dead and Landis's own An American Werewolf in London, it was truly a mini-film, which was unheard of in music videos up until Thriller.

That's it for me this week, because no mere mortal can resist...a weekend. See you back here on Monday!
