Weekly finale: Nature Boy

Another week ends. Time for our weekly musical finale.

One of the things I like about movie trailers is how they can introduce me to new music I might not have otherwise heard. For example, the latest trailer for the upcoming Alien: Covenant film:

In case you don't recognize it, the song in the trailer is Nature Boy, by Aurora Aksnes, a 20 year old Norwegian singer songwriter. The full, haunting song is below:

However, the song itself is much older. It was first recorded by Nat King Cole in 1947:

Nature Boy was written by eden ahbez (his nom de plume was not capitalized), who was influential on the hippie movement of the 1960's.

However, the lyrics seem to have been influenced by an even older source. Consider this line from the song:
The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return
It echoes the following lines from Annabel Lee by Edgar Allan Poe:
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.
Annabel Lee was written in 1849.

That is all for me this week. May you "love and be loved" this weekend. I shall return with more Monday.
