Caught between two liars: Today's news for January 4th

New York Times:
President-elect Donald J. Trump said Tuesday that intelligence officials had delayed briefing him on their conclusion that Russia interfered in the 2016 election and suggested, with no evidence, that they might be buying time to assemble a more substantial case.
A spokesman for the director of national intelligence declined to comment on Mr. Trump’s claim. Senior administration officials disputed it, saying that no meeting had been scheduled for Tuesday.
Mr. Trump’s Twitter post, on a day when he had said he might reveal “things that other people don’t know” about the hacking, underscored his skepticism about the intelligence agencies’ conclusion that the Russian government used cyberattacks to tip the election in his favor.
He posted it as senior national security officials — including the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, and the director of national intelligence, James R. Clapper Jr. — were finalizing plans to travel to New York on Friday to brief him about their findings.
The inherent problem in this news story is we have Donald "Birther" Trump on one side, and the senior administration officials of the Barack "If you like your doctor, you can keep him" Obama administration. Which story is right when nobody is credible?

I will toss out this reasonable speculation: The truth lies somewhere in-between both stories:
On Tuesday, Mr. Trump, like Mr. Obama, received the president’s daily briefing, a summary of high-level intelligence and analysis about global hot spots and national security threats written by the office of the director of national intelligence. It is unclear whether Mr. Trump is receiving the presidential briefing every day, but he is getting a general national security briefing daily from Michael T. Flynn, who will be his national security adviser.
My guess is Trump knew about that daily briefing in advance (they had to schedule it with him, right?), and expected to receive information about the Russian hacking there. When he didn't get it, that is when he cried foul.

We will see what happens Friday.

In other news...

KGNS TV:
LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) - Another group of undocumented immigrants were scheduled to be released in Laredo.

It's the latest in a series of several releases of undocumented immigrants who met certain eligibility requirements.

We first heard reports of 400 undocumented immigrants that were heading to Laredo but the number is uncertain and no one in the city was given a warning from Immigration Customs Enforcement.
Why would undocumented immigrants EVER be released ANYWHERE in the U.S.?

If it is a case where they didn't have documents but we can confirm who they are and why they are here, then give them proper documents and then release them.

But there are some intriguing excuses built into this story:
[Laredo] Councilwoman and immigration attorney Nelly Vielma spoke with a deportation supervisor regarding the situation.

Vielma was told there are differences from then to now, the women have orders to appear in court but are free from ICE custody until then.

Vielma says they were selected carefully.
Not buying that one.
Vielma also says that she was told this movement of immigrants happens after day-to-day evaluations of bed space reveal, a need for more space.
And we should care about their sleeping conditions why? They are not citizens of the U.S., and they are not here legally.
However, some countries refusing to repatriate are also adding to the overflow in immigration detention centers.
Finally, a valid problem! And I offer a valid solution: Make the immigration process easier for people who are not known criminals or suspected terrorists. If you can pass a background check, you are in. Give them proper documentation, and then release them into the sanctuary cities (not just the nearest unsuspecting city).

There is no valid reason for making immigration as complicated as getting a mortgage, other than "that's what government does".
