Time to end this week with the weekly musical finale.
This week I am digging up a classic 80's tune, Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love":
This is NOT a great song musically. The rhythm almost drones.
However, this song is a great vehicle for singers. Fortunately, Palmer had the singing voice to carry it.
Also fortunately, a great singer did cover it:
But I have to admit, this is not Turner's best work. The problem is the droning rhythm, which can lull a good singer into droning along with it.
There is hope: Florence and the Machine fixed the musical problem by approaching it like "Bolero":
Starting it a cappella, and then increasing the musical accompaniment along the way, it turns this into a new song. Alex Clare does something similar in his cover, but he is also a better singer than Florence Welch:
But the best cover, in my opinion, goes to Flash Mob Jazz, with their wonderfully bluesy interpretation:
That is all for me this week. Enjoy your own addictions this weekend, but be back Monday for more blogging goodness.
