Weekly Finale: Pitbull

Time to close up the blog shop with the weekly musical finale.

This week, I turn the spotlight on rapper Pitbull.

I don't normally like rap music. It is far too angry, misogynistic, and racist. That doesn't even touch on how rap music tends to be less like music and more like poetry reading with musical accompaniment. However, Pitbull isn't the traditional rapper. He makes music.

In addition, Pitbull's music tends to be fun and just plain cool. So when I saw he had a new album out today, I had to give it a listen. "Climate Change" is standard Pitbull: fun, sexy, with some solid arrangements and catchy tunes. He works with a bunch of different musicians on every song, including such musical names as Jennifer Lopez, Robin Thicke, Lunchmoney Lewis, Leona Lewis, and Enrique Iglesias.

Pitbull does only one song without another named singer, and it is naturally another party anthem (Pitbull is the king of modern party anthems) called Freedom (which includes writing credits to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones):

But the instant classic from the album is the R&B-flavored Bad Man, with Robin Thicke:

That is all I wrote for this week. Enjoy your St. Patty's Day, and get over your hangover by Monday so you can get your eyeballs back here for more blogging.
