A reply to Aziz Ansari

I finally got around to reading Aziz Ansari's New York Times editorial from last Sunday. While I respect him as an actor, he is missing the point by targeting Donald Trump for why he is scared. Trump is a symptom, not the disease.

Trump is also being shortsighted. Certainly, keeping Muslim immigration to zero is a good idea during a period of radical Islamic terrorism. But why do we have so much terrorism?

As long as innocent Muslims are being killed by Western military interventions in the Middle East and Asia, the terrorism will continue, and get worse. I used to think this was just something nobody in power has realized. Sadly, I have come to the opposite conclusion: They not only realize it, they are encouraging it, because it gives those in power the opportunity to grab for more power through fear-mongering.

As Obama's former Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel once said, "You never want a serious crisis to go to waste." This is the kind of thinking we have in power right now.
