Delta down, Hillary held up: Today's news August 8, 2016

If you have a Delta flight today, take a load off and enjoy some news, because you aren't going anywhere...

Fox News:

Delta Airlines says it is has grounded flights after experiencing unspecified systems issues.

There are a couple of interesting points about this story.

First, remember the good old days of journalism when reporters had to actually interview people? Now they just go to Twitter, get the embed code for a couple of Tweets about the situation, and boom! Your story is done.

(Modern journalism at its best!)

Note this isn't a complaint, because I do the same thing. It is merely an observation.

Second thing, even though Fox reported the story, they made no mention of the Southwest Airlines outage from last month? Two airlines have the same problem in two months, and nobody thinks it is worth mentioning in a news story? Either you need to check your reporters for memory loss, or they might be morons.

Back to politics...

The American Mirror:

"Old lady gets helped up stairs! Film at 11!"

This might actually not be newsworthy, except for what Drudge linked:

  • 2012, New York Times: Clinton Out of Hospital After Treatment for Clot - "Mrs. Clinton, 65, was admitted to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia hospital on Sunday after a scan discovered the blood clot. The scan was part of her follow-up care for a concussion she sustained more than two weeks earlier, when she fainted and fell, striking her head. According to the State Department, the fainting was caused by dehydration, brought on by a stomach virus. The concussion was diagnosed on Dec. 13, though the fall had occurred earlier that week."
  • 2011, Youtube: Hillary Clinton Falls Boarding Plane
  • 2009, New York Times: Clinton to Have Surgery to Repair Elbow Fractured in a Fall
Hillary will be 69 in October. Ronald Reagan was just shy of 70 when he took office. FDR spent most of his presidency going around in a wheelchair. Other presidents, including Lincoln and Kennedy, have suffered from various ailments while in office. Being fall-prone does not exclude Hillary from office.

By the way, the Olympics started...

CNN:
Michael Phelps produced a vintage performance to claim an astonishing 19th Olympic gold medal of his career on Sunday.

The 31-year-old, who quit the sport after the 2012 Games, was back with a bang in Rio as Team USA eased to victory in the 4x100 meters freestyle relay.

Phelps, who produced a stunning second leg, has now won 23 medals in total, extending his record as the most decorated Olympian of all time.
Naturally, what is most interesting about this is what CNN didn't say:

Gateway Pundit:
Before the Opening Ceremonies on Friday CNN host W. Kamau Bell made a request to world famous Olympian Michael Phelps.
...Before the Olympics kicked off in Rio CNN anchor W. Kamau Bell asked Phelps to let a Muslim carry the US flag.
Here are some lines from the insipidly PC editorial which W. Kamau Bell wrote:
And that's why I would be proud of you for giving up your position to Ibtihaj Muhammad. Muhammad carrying the flag would be much bigger than your one moment. It would be a symbol for our country in this moment when we are mostly known for one of the most contentious, controversial, scandal-ridden, hateful, xenophobic, jingoistic, and just generally unlikeable presidential elections in recent memory. This is at a time when we could use some more symbols of unity and togetherness.
Muhammad carrying the flag would be nearly a one-stop inclusion shop. Muhammad is an African-American, hijab-wearing Muslim woman who is also a world class fencer. Those are all groups that could always use some more love, acceptance, and respect from this country.
No knock against Muhammad, but Phelps was voted to carry the flag by his fellow American athletes. This was a decision made by the athletes, not a government commission or a board of political correctness, but the people actually participating in the Olympics for America.

Mr. Bell, nobody will question your ability to worship at the altar of political correctness. But don't expect Mr. Phelps to give up the honors he has earned through hard work just so you can score political points.
