With the news on the race riot in Milwaukee, I was surprised at what some news sources placed as lede stories above the Milwaukee story.
For example:
CNN:
Really? We have a race riot in Milwaukee and Trump is the lede? Even worse:
...the Republican presidential nominee will lay out proposals to combat ISIS and prevent terrorist attacks in the US, including banning individuals from countries with heavy terrorist footprints where the US government cannot adequately vet visa applicants and increasing cooperation with willing Middle Eastern allies, a senior Trump campaign official said.I could have told you this 6 months ago. This is NOT news, yet it is more important than Milwaukee? CNN gets the bear for this one:
Next, we move on to Drudge Report's headline link:
Washington Examiner:
At least this is a story, albeit kind of lame:
Hillary Clinton's campaign on Sunday announced a program to recruit undocumented "Dreamers" into a voter registration army even though they are not allowed to vote.
Celebrating the four-year anniversary of President Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, Clinton launched "Mi Sueno, Tu Voto" (My Dream, Your Vote), to rally and "secure commitments" from immigrants who can vote.
The DACA program created so-called "Dreamers," the children of illegal immigrants who the president has offered renewable two-year work visas and deportation deferral. The goal for many in the program is amnesty.
"We may not have the right to vote, but 'Mi Sueno, Tu Voto' will help ensure that our stories are heard and it will send a clear signal to Donald Trump that we cannot be silenced," said Astrid Silva, Nevada Dreamer and immigrant rights activist. There is nothing illegal about this, although the "wink wink nudge nudge" factor is strong, as in Hillary seems to be encouraging illegal immigrants to vote for her.
It still doesn't top Milwaukee.
New York Times:
Nothing like a Trump hit piece. While I will not be voting for Trump anyway, I find this overkill. So Trump's campaign manager has links to the Ukraine. Are New York Times readers so rabidly against Trump that they can't get enough negative Trump stories?
Tomorrow's New York Times headline: "Trump's grandfather was in 3rd grade with Al Capone".
MSNBC:
Yes, America needs another Trump hit piece. Refer to the bear above.
But the contrast with their parent company is striking:
NBC News:
An Olympic runner is NBC's lede? Can you say "sold their soul to the Olympics"? Just because they own the Olympic coverage this year doesn't mean the rest of the world is stopping just to watch the Olympics on NBC. If ever you need proof that news coverage is biased by corporate interests, look no further than this.
