Obama's third term

My dad has been saying for years that Obama was going to declare martial law so he could remain president after his term in office ends. My dad may have been right.

Consider this, from the blog End of the American Dream:
If Donald Trump wins in November, will Barack Obama leave office and hand over power in an orderly fashion? Normally we would not even have to ask such a question, but these are not normal times. This week, Obama publicly stated that Trump “is unfit to serve as President” and that he is “woefully unprepared to do this job“. In addition, he told the press that Trump “doesn’t have the judgment, the temperament, the understanding to occupy the most powerful position in the world.” If Obama really believes those things are true, would he really just stand aside and hand the keys to the White House to Trump?
Michael Snyder, the post's author, does lay out an interesting case.

It seems to me that if Hillary wins, Obama would have no chance to do anything like this. Even if he were power-mad, he couldn't even sell Democrats on this idea if Hillary wins. A huge majority of the American public would be in open revolt against him. On the other hand, if Trump wins outright, Obama is going to have a hard time denying Trump, especially if Trump won with a majority of the popular vote on top of the electoral college victory.

But in the hypothetical realms, it becomes much less clear. What if the election is inconclusive (nobody has enough delegates to win in the electoral college) and ends up being decided in Congress? If you look at the polls today, it becomes unclear who would have the electoral college victory when you have third and fourth party candidates sucking up 15% of the votes. If that number grows, as it is currently growing, it could turn the electoral college into a mess. An election thrown to the Congress is a very real possibility.

So what if Trump is made president by a Congressional vote? Even then, Obama would have a tough time making up a national emergency and claiming marital law. If Congress voted Trump in, they could also impeach Obama, and probably would under those circumstances.

Let's add a little something to the conspiracy recipe: What if Congress voted Trump president with less than a majority of the popular vote? And lets say Obama calls up his lackeys in the FBI and CIA, and tells them to back off from investigating ANY potential terrorists? Add in the fact that Obama has encouraged immigration from Syria, where ISIS could easily slip a few terrorists (or a few hundred) across America's borders. Give us two or three (or more) nasty terrorist attacks, with death tolls in the thousands, and suddenly Obama declaring martial law in the face of a Trump presidency doesn't sound so ridiculous. I can even imagine Obama claiming he was doing it for the good of the country.

Normally, I don't buy into conspiracy theories. But as blind as the American people have already been to the shenanigans of the Democrats and Republicans, nothing surprises me any more. While I hope I am wrong, if not, you can find me in a concentration camp next year. Or will they call it a "re-education camp"? I do have trouble keeping up with the proper newspeak.

P.S. If Trump's candidacy does lead to an Obama third term, just remember this picture:
Coincidence? I think not.
