Have you ever seen gay people, or even just PC-obsessed straight people, who become anti-straight in all it's forms? I noticed the word "heterophobia" is actually used for this.
This comes to me from the Vanity Fair article, "Is This the One Flaw in the Otherwise Great Captain America: Civil War?" And the flaw is the Captain America film throws cold water on the idea that Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes (Rogers' former sidekick) were at some time involved in a homosexual relationship. As the article states:
...doesn’t Captain America: Civil War go out of its way to “define” Bucky and Steve’s relationship when Cap smooches Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) while Bucky looks on approvingly? Where’s the room for interpretation in that moment? And, leaving aside the vague creepiness of Steve making a move on Peggy’s (very willing) niece, the moment itself wasn’t necessary to the flow of the movie at all.Actually, the scene in question was rather amusing. Both my wife and I laughed at it.
The writer of this article, Joanna Robinson, doesn't even have a vested interest in a Steve and Bucky relationship. Even if she is gay, she isn't a man, so she wouldn't appreciate a Steve-and-Bucky makeout scene if it happened. To her, it's just a check box on her PC checklist.
What an incredibly dull life she must have. Being a heterophobe in a world of primarily heterosexuals must be hard on her.
P.S. On a side note, I loved the film. It was one of the better films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
