The Ad-free Life

In April, 2013, my family cut the cable cord (actually it was a satellite dish cord, but you get the idea). Since then, all we watch is Netflix. The main thing that has made this sacrifice-free: No ads.

Now I can quantify this benefit. From Business Insider, via Yahoo Finance:

Streaming-data site CordCutting.com recently crunched the numbers, and it turns out that each Netflix subscriber saves themselves about 158.5 hours of commercials per year.
That is OVER 6 DAYS of my life lost to advertising every year. Or to take the "glass half-full" approach, 6 days of my life spent on something other than tv ads.

Just don't tell my wife. She'll have me vacuuming the downstairs...
