Favored Libertarian Party presidential candidate Gary Johnson has agreed to join forces with former Massachusetts Governor William Weld for the Libertarian Party's nomination. Weld will run for the party's vice presidential slot, possibly bolstering the third party's appeal to general election voters.I like Weld as a fiscal conservative/social liberal. His anti-gun rights positions irk me, but there are other more important issues.
However, I still prefer Austin Petersen to Gary Johnson. Adding Weld to the ticket doesn't change anything. If the Libertarians are going to win the White House, they MUST do two things:
Petersen gives us the best chance of doing the second part. Johnson won't win a debate against either Trump or Clinton.
1. Get on the debate platform with the two majors.
2. Win the debate.
While I will vote for Johnson over Trump or Clinton, I don't think he can sell the message like Petersen can. Weld makes no difference in that regard.
