Let us be realistic about this: Suicide can be done by many means, most of which do not require firearms. That leaves 11,994 deaths by gun in 2013.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, in 2013, firearms were used in 84,258 nonfatal injuries (26.65 per 100,000 U.S. citizens) and 11,208 deaths by homicide (3.5 per 100,000), 21,175 by suicide with a firearm, 505 deaths due to accidental discharge of a firearm, and 281 deaths due to firearms-use with "undetermined intent" for a total of 33,169 deaths related to firearms (excluding firearm deaths due to legal intervention). 1.3% of all deaths in the country were related to firearms.
On the other hand, there were 32,719 fatalities in car accidents in 2013.
Overall, I would call cars the greater of the two hazards.
However, even if you decide to include suicides in the gun statistics, you have to at least concede that cars are an equally great hazard. Ergo, if you want to ban guns, I assume you also want to ban cars? If not, then please explain why you want to ban guns, which are Constitutionally protected, and not ban cars, which aren't?
"Do not be fooled by a belief that progressives, leftists hate guns. Oh, no, they do not. What they hate is guns in the hands of those who are not marching in lock step to their ideology. They hate guns in the hands of those who think for themselves and do not obey without question."--Stanislav Mishin
