Donald J. Trump said Wednesday that people on the terror watch list should be barred from buying firearms, putting himself in the center of a gun-control debate in Congress revived by the worst mass shooting in United States history. Was Omar Mateen, the Orlando shooter, on the terror watch list? No. So why is this even being discussed?
This is just another expansion of government power, at the sacrifice of innocent Americans. Being put on the terror watch list doesn't require any kind of formal legal hearing. The government can add you or remove you from the list at their whim. While I am sure they take that responsibility seriously, what happens when we get a Nixon in the White House? He could simply add his "enemies" to the terror watch list.
Not that a President Trump would EVER do that! (tongue firmly in cheek)
