Paul Ryan's "new GOP"

(hat tip to Political Vel Craft for the pic)

Today, Republican Speaker of the House Paul Ryan is going to "unveil recommendations drawn up by a task force of House Republicans to combat poverty and aid upward mobility", according to a story from USA Today. If you want, you can read them at this link. However, the list is so wonky as to be ridiculous.

Consider this one:

Rolling back federal requirements and regulations for technical education programs and for colleges and universities, which one study commissioned by Vanderbilt University last year estimated cost schools $27 billion annually. The plan also recommends consolidating the nine federal-aid programs for higher education into three.
Why not get the government out of higher education entirely? Considering the government's impact on higher education has only caused the price of it to become bloated beyond any reasonable expectation for any individual to pay for it, isn't it time to admit failure? When you find you have dug yourself into a hole, using a smaller shovel isn't the solution.

This is why I consider the Republicans a failed party. Making our already oversized government "more efficient" is like taking a dump truck and improving it's gas mileage by one mile per gallon: Nobody will notice the difference and the problem will still be there.

On the bright side, after Paul Ryan rolls out this silly plan, the Democrats will wail like banshees about how Republicans are killing the American people with this godawful idea. That alone is worth the price of this inane plan.
